As any fan of 30 Rock knows, Leap Day is about taking chances, stepping out of your comfort zone, and trying new things. If you’ve thought about working with a doula for your upcoming birth but haven’t been ready to take the leap, today is a great day to consider what might be holding you back. Here are some of the most common concerns we hear at Luna Doulas and our responses.
“I’m planning to have an epidural and doulas only support ‘natural’ birth.” At Luna Doulas, our primary goals are to help you feel informed, empowered, and supported, no matter what choices you make. Sierra and Skylar have assisted clients at a wide variety of births, including medicated and unmedicated births, inductions, VBACs, and cesarean births. We trust in your ability to make the decisions that are right for you and your body, your family, and your baby, and you’ll never get any judgement from us.
“Doulas are just for hippies.” While we do get our share of “crunchy” types (we are in Colorado, after all), we’re here for you no matter your style or tastes. Through our work together, we’ll get to know you and your family -- what you love, what stresses you out, what comforts you, what makes you laugh, what motivates you – and create a birth experience that feels authentically YOU. Whether you want to labor using mantras or with your favorite workout playlist, we’ve got you covered.
“I like the idea of a doula, but I don’t want them to take the place of my partner.” If you would like your partner or a loved one to participate at your birth, we strive to include them as much as possible. We know that this is a profoundly meaningful experience for you as individuals and as a family, and we honor that by teaching your partner comfort measures, supporting their self-care (everyone needs a nap, a coffee, or a bathroom break at some point!), and holding space for you to bond.
